(I'm happy to say my editor's suggestions were all so reasonable that I never needed to dig my heels in. In other words, I got off easy.)

If anyone else would like to contribute their editing stories--or steer me to links about them--I'd love to see them. Folks tend to be quite close-mouthed on this topic!David Isaakhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04928598446742324391noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8371628584376797540.post-5764292286138148932007-01-31T09:26:00.000-08:002007-01-31T09:26:00.000-08:00Hi David

I think this is pretty unusual these days. (But we both missed a couple of mistakes!)

I did make a couple of concessions and dug my heels in on one thing. The original novel had a 25 year old heroine but because Transita were targeting women over 45, my heroine had to add a few years. I was happy to do this, I'd only made her young because that's what the market was then demanding. The other thing I conceded was that my characters should 'not use the F word' as older women apparently found this 'distasteful'. (Doesn't bother me, I fit that category and, sadly, have been known to use it myself, but I went with the editor's wisdom).
The thing I dug my heels in on was the ending. When I tell people that although it ends in a death, the book has a happy ending, I get some odd glances, but that's how it had to go. I stuck firm and was proved right, thank God.

Nicky

PS Great to see my name up in lights on your Author list, I'll return the compliment a.s.a.p!Nicola Sladehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03076176253820195827noreply@blogger.com
